To appreciate God’s forgiveness, we need to understand the severity of sin. Sin is not only bad behavior; it is the expression of our fallen nature that loves evil and darkness. In Psalm 32, the words that describe this is iniquity, transgression, and sin. There is only one way for God to forgive our sins: through the death of Jesus Christ. We cannot overcome sin problem by good works. Only the perfect and atoning work of Christ on the cross can earn God’s forgiveness of our sins. We receive His forgiveness only by trusting in Jesus Christ and His work. This faith in Jesus Christ is expressed through confession and repentance. Yet, we will experience the richness of God’s forgiveness when we learn to forgive others.
