In the beginning, human life began, decorated, and blessed with beauty, goodness, and glory (Genesis 1). The desire to have a life beyond blessed satisfaction given by the Creator is fatal to the entire life order of the human race. It can be concluded that because of the rebellion against God triggered by the desire to have more, the history of human life ends with a curse (Malachi 4: 6). First and foremost, each of us wants more on certain and specific things in life. We will never achieve satisfaction. If we want more it is a common focus and phenomenon. However, this whole ‘do more, work harder’ mentality is not proof in the celebration of the once-a-year goal-setting tradition. In fact, most of us now live in a culture that attempts to get more focused than others in recent history.
The desire to get more pushed the first humans into sin. Their hearts are poisoned by greed and self-fulfilling interests.
Our lives will have the same tastes and desires if we still have the desire to get more and more. Greed has the potential to drag us into the old way of life that we have felt the bitterness of. In the new year of 2020, we need a new heart and spirit, not a new external appearance, but an inner one. Ezekiel 36:26 explains, “I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take your stony out, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. ” Only by having a new heart and spirit can we walk and enjoy 2020. Looking for self-satisfaction and efforts to get more, makes us forget the divine purpose and will why God created us.
